Died: 16 May 1869 of natural causes at age 75 at Walsoken, Norfolk.  He was found dead and the coroner for Norfolk's inquest held his death may have been an accident.[4]

Patience had siblings who were also baptized at St. Clements:[10]

Smith.  In 1851 Ann was a dressmaker at the age of 28.[16]In 1861 she was still a dressmaker, age 38, not married, and living with her parents in Walsoken.[17]

(5) Caroline, baptized 18 Nov 1823 at Wisbech St. Peter, Camb. Her father's residence was on Elm St.  On 2 Jan 1848 she, a spinster and dressmaker, married John Meeks, bachelor and mariner, at the Wesleyan Chapel in Wisbech according to the rites and ceremonies of the Wesleyans.  At the time of her marriage, she lived on South Street in Wisbech St. Peter, and he lived on Nene Parade in Wisbech St. Peter.  His father was also John Meeks, a "waterman."  Witnesses to the marriage were William Spraggs and John Spraggs.[18]

His father's residence was on Elm St.  There was a John Sp[r]aggs, eight years old, Elm Street who was buried 22 May 1826.[20]  If he is the actual seventh child, his baptism would have been two days before his burial, 22 May 1826.  It would also mean that he would have had to be the oldest child or, possibly, a twin of Susanna, who was baptized in 1818.  Also note that John, the third child in the family, was baptized in 1821.  It is not likely there were two live sons with the same name, although this arrangement by no means would have been unique.

Her father's residence was on Timber Market.  In 1851 she was 20 years old.[21]  An Eliza Spraggs, age 23, daughter of John Spraggs, gardener, d. 31 May 1853 from phthisis [probably tuberculosis] (apparently she had this illness for six months) at Ryan Street, Wisbech St. Peter.  The mark of Elizabeth Daws of Ryan St. indicated she was present at the death.[22]  An Eliza Spraggs, single woman, lived on Ryan St.  Her child was Charles Henry, baptized 2 Jun 1853.  A Charles Henry Spraggs d. 20 Jun 1853, age 1 [6?] months   An Eliza Spraggs was buried 4 Jun 1853 at age 23.[23]  By 1861 she was not living with her parents.[24]

(14) Louisa, b. 13 Sep 1838 at Wisbech.  Her sister Caroline Spraggs of Norfolk St., East in Wisbech was the informant.  Her father was listed as a gardener.[32]  Louisa was baptized 30 Oct 1838 at Wisbech St. Peter, Camb. Her father's residence was on Elm Street.  She was buried 17 Nov 1839 at the age of 13 months.[33]

Biography: In 1818 John was a laborer living in Walsoken, while in 1819 he was a gardener.  In 1819, 1821, and 1822 he was again a laborer.  In 1823, 1825, and 1826 he was once more a gardener, and then in 1827 and 1830 he was a laborer.  In 1831, 1833, 1834, 1836, and 1838 he was a gardener.[34]  In 1844[35], 1851 (age 57 and residing on Great South Street) [36], and 1854 John was a gardener.[37]  In 1851 John, Jr., was listed as a market gardener and resided on Great South St.[38]  In 1859 he was classified as a jobbing gardener.[39]  In 1861, at age 66, he was a laborer and resided at 99 George Street, Walsoken.[40]  He was an agricultural laborer at the time of his death in 1869.[41]  It is believed that regardless of what classification was given to his occupation in a given year, he was a farmhand.  It is not known if he actually owned any of his own land.

Note: Archdeaconry and Bishops' transcripts showed no death records of any pertinent Spraggs.  At the Norfolk Record Office was found an interesting 1708 inventory of a deceased John Spragge, carpenter, son of Shipdham Spragge, no precise geographical location given.
